Welcome Parents!

BU is recognized for teaching and research. President Robert A. Brown and Provost Jean Morrison discuss BU’s invitation to join the Association of American Universities (AAU)—a prestigious association of top research universities in the United States and Canada.

Congratulations and welcome to the Boston University community. This is a very exciting time for your family. We would like to share some of what we feel makes BU the right choice for your son’s or daughter’s undergraduate education.

Who we are

Since our founding in 1839, Boston University has opened its doors to all students regardless of religion, gender, race, or place of origin. We are proud of our community of just over 16,000 undergraduates from every state in the US and over 100 countries who enrich campus life. Together we are building an understanding of the interconnected, global world in which we live.

What we teach

We teach success. A BU education opens doors. Our graduates are ranked #5 in the US and #6 in the world for employability. So it shouldn’t surprise you that 91 percent of our students found employment or went on to graduate programs within six months of graduation. And our graduates are finding more than just jobs; they are forging impressive careers. This is because our graduates emerge smart, curious, ready to lead, and eminently employable.

We teach at a prestigious level. Our faculty are leaders from every field—creative giants, computer whizzes, business titans—who work at the cutting edge of research and knowledge. Academics are exciting, inspiring, and rigorous, earning BU a U.S. News & World Report ranking of #37 among universities in the nation. We educate our students to become entrepreneurs and archaeologists. We develop filmmakers and mechanical engineers. We nurture poets and environmentalists. And we do it through combined liberal arts and professional studies that develop the agile, adaptive thinking that is critical for success in today’s world.

We teach the world. Few schools offer the international exposure and opportunities that we do. Boston?is one of the top three destinations in the US and 11th in the world for international students. In fact, in a recent survey, students cited frequent interaction with other cultures and perspectives as one of their favorite aspects of BU.

We hope you will take the time to learn more about Boston University, visit campus if you can, and discover the difference a BU education will make for your son or daughter.
