Director’s Letter

One of the first collaborative exercises the Kilachand directors and staff undertook together in 2017 was to evaluate and rewrite our mission statement. We circulated the text by email, which gradually, through the handy mechanism of “track changes,” became a rainbow of revisions and comments. I showed the paragraph we drafted to a respected leader from what I sometimes call the “business world,” as if that’s a separate sphere from “the university.”* She informed me that mission statements are not paragraphs; they should be just one sentence, something that could be “rattled off” with a handshake. It was back to drafting and track changes, and we currently have a two-sentence mission statement.

Arvind and Chandan Nandlal Kilachand Honors College is a four-year undergraduate program that offers the small classes, personal attention, close interaction with faculty, and communal atmosphere of a small liberal arts college with the intellectual range and resources of a major urban research university.

Education by cross-pollination

Students pursue a major in one of Boston University's eight degree-granting undergraduate schools or colleges. Students interact with stimulating and accomplished faculty and thinkers inside and outside of Boston University

Students prepare for work and study following graduation with a project guided by an adviser in their major department or program during their senior year.

Connect with extraordinary minds

Work closely with distinguished faculty like Laurence Kotlikoff, who is widely considered to be one of the leading experts on today’s most pressing fiscal issues; Nobel Prize winner Sheldon Glashow, a co-creator of the Standard Model of elementary particle physics; and Andrew Bacevich, an authority on American foreign policy who uses his historical knowledge and his military experience to understand America’s changing place in the world.

A new approach to liberal arts

During the students' time at Boston University, they will be part of both the Arvind and Chandan Nandlal Kilachand Honors College and one of BU's excellent undergraduate schools and colleges, including the College of Arts & Sciences, School of Management, College of Fine Arts, College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College, and College of Engineering. This combination will give students access to a wide range of stimulating and accomplished faculty who will guide them through their next four years of education. Information about these undergraduate programs and the application process is available on the Admissions website.

Students admitted to the College will be notified when they receive the notification of acceptance to their college of enrollment at Boston University.
